We want to help Ireland get to the World Baseball Classic. Helping Ireland get to the WBC has always been one of the goals of the Irish American Baseball Society.
Unfortunately, Ireland’s National Baseball Team is being held back by an unfair quota system that is preventing many dual citizens from trying out for the team. We believe that the quota system is unfair and misguided. Here’s why:
- According to Irish law, an Irish citizen is an Irish citizen, period.
- A successful Irish National Team is good for Ireland and the game of baseball.
- A strong Irish National Team will inspire kids to play baseball.
- If Ireland gets to the WBC, the funding from MLB will strengthen youth baseball programs in Ireland.
