Irish Baseball Heritage Award Winners Announced

Awards Recognize Youth Baseball Achievements On and Off the Field

New York, NY (December 12, 2023) The winners of the inaugural Irish Baseball Heritage Awards have been announced by the Irish American Baseball Society. The awards recognize middle and high school baseball players for their achievements on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

The awards are the latest initiative of the Irish American Baseball Society to recognize the Irish impact on the game of baseball. The organization also oversees the operations of the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame.

The award winners, listed by graduating class:

Class of 2023

  • Bryan Cahill (Weymouth, MA): Archbishop Williams High School
  • Dylan Dempsey (Washingtonville, NY): Washingtonville High School
  • Jack Fitzgerald (Braintree, MA): Braintree HS
  • Paul Foster (North Billerica, MA): Billerica Memorial High School
  • Ryan Travis (Roswell, GA): Roswell High School

Class of 2024

  • Aidan Proctor (New City, NY): Clarkstown South High School
  • Sean Delaney (White Plains, NY): Archbishop Stepinac High School
  • Sean Egan (Plainville, CT): Plainville High School
  • Ryan Neville (Yonkers, NY): Fordham Preparatory High School

Class of 2026

  • James DeGuire (Vernon, CT): Rockville High School
  • Liam Kalakowsky (Boston, MA): Windham  High School
  • Brady Dinco (Eastvale, CA): Ontario Christian High School

Class of 2027

  • Ryan Robinson (Jefferson, MD)
  • Jacob Wolf (Queensbury, NY): Queensbury Middle School
  • Michael Flaherty (Plainville, MA): King Philip Regional High School

Class of 2028

  • James Slavin (Massapequa, NY): Plainedge Middle School
  • Aidan Hughes (Massapequa, NY): Plainedge Middle School

 

“This is an important part of our work to bring together the Irish American community around the game of baseball,” said John Fitzgerald of the Irish American Baseball Society. “We were honored to receive nominations from coaches, teachers, and parents from around the country,”

Awards are open to all players, regardless of their family’s ancestry. If a player doesn’t have Irish ancestry, they can still qualify for the award by volunteering in their community on behalf of an Irish American cultural organization.

Award applications were reviewed by a panel of Irish American Baseball Hall of Famers, including Joe McEwing, Sean Casey, Mike Sweeney, and Steve Garvey.
