Orioles stars Ryan O’Hearn and Ryan Mountcastle received awards from the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame in recognition of their Irish heritage. The awards were presented by IABHOF Founder and President Emeritus, Shaun Clancy.
O’Hearn, who traces his Irish roots back to Cork and Limerick, was the recipient of the first Diaspora Award.
Mountcastle, who traces his Irish roots back to Donegal, received the “I Didn’t Know He Was Irish Award.”
About the Diaspora and “I Didn’t Know He Was Irish” Awards
The Diaspora Award is given to players who have reached the highest levels of the sport. The “I Didn’t Know He Was Irish Award” is awarded to players, coaches, media personalities, and executives who have Irish roots but don’t have an Irish surname. The award is named after Duke Castiglione and Pete Caldera!
