Red Sox Legend Will Be Inducted into Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame
Boston, MA (September 13, 2024) – The Irish American Baseball Society will induct Wade Boggs into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame on September 21 at Fenway Park.
Boggs, who played 11 seasons in Boston and won five batting titles, will be inducted in a pregame ceremony on the field before the Red Sox take on the Minnesota Twins.
“Wade is a true baseball legend and an all-time great,” said Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame founder Shaun Clancy. “This will be our first induction in the city of Boston and we’re very excited for it.”
Boggs, who also played for the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, finished his career with a .328 batting average and 3,010 hits. He was a twelve-time All-Star and eight-time Silver Slugger award winner. He is a member of both the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays Hall of Fame.
“I’m honored to be inducted into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame,” said Boggs from his home in Tampa, FL. “And Fenway is the perfect place to do it!”
Irish American Baseball Society lead genealogy researcher Tim Carr has traced Boggs Irish ancestry to his grandmother, Hattie Donnelley, and as far back as 18th century Dublin, Ireland.
Boggs is one of five inductees of Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame this year. The other inductees are former Bay Area baseball legend Lefty O’Doul, former Pirates manager Danny Murtaugh, MLB Network media personality Brian Kenny, and YES Network Yankees analyst Jack Curry. The inductees were nominated and elected by members of the Irish American Baseball Society.
