The Irish Wolfhounds Baseball Club recently completed an historic series of exhibition games against Team Germany, helping the German squad prepare for the 2025 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in Tucson, Arizona. The Wolfhounds, bolstered by guest players from across the U.S. and the Tucson area, were led by former MLB player and coach Joe McEwing, with former Team Ireland National Baseball Team coach Donegal Fergus joining him in the dugout as the bench coach.

These games showcased the rapid growth of the Wolfhounds, a club originally formed to highlight the depth of talent available to help Ireland reach the World Baseball Classic. However, despite their efforts, many of the Wolfhounds’ players are still being prevented from trying out for Team Ireland due to a restrictive quota system limiting the participation of Irish dual citizens from the U.S., Canada, and elsewhere.

In addition to their matchups with Germany, the Wolfhounds also faced off against the Southern Arizona All-Stars, a team composed of former college and professional players from the region. The series in Tucson underscored the club’s commitment to growing Irish baseball and providing opportunities for players seeking to represent their heritage on the international stage.

Germany will next face off against China, Brazil, and Colombia in the World Baseball Classic Qualifers at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona. The tournament will take place from March 2-6, 2025.
