The Irish Wolfhounds Baseball Club is proud to announce the appointment of Geoff Freeborn as Scouting Director for Canada. Geoff brings a wealth of experience to the Wolfhounds, having pitched professionally for the Calgary Vipers and Yuma Scorpions, and represented both Team Canada and Team Great Britain on the international stage. He currently serves as the Head Coach at the University of Calgary and is the founder of Sidearm Nation, a platform dedicated to supporting sidearm and submarine pitchers.
In his new role with the Wolfhounds, Freeborn will scout players in Canada who either hold or are eligible for Irish citizenship. He will also leverage his connections across collegiate, independent, and affiliated baseball to find WBC-eligible players eager to represent their Irish heritage. Additionally, he’ll help recruit guest players with college or professional experience who are available to suit up for the Wolfhounds on a short-term basis.
“We’re pumped to add Geoff to the Wolfhounds team,” said Wolfhounds General Manager Christian Heimall. “The goal of the Wolfhounds has been, and will be, to make the case for Ireland to embrace the World Baseball Classic. That includes finding WBC-eligible players throughout the United States and Canada. We believe Geoff has the connections and track record to do just that.”
Ahead of the Wolfhounds’ recent exhibition games with Team Germany, Geoff identified six college and professional players eligible to represent Ireland in the WBC, bringing the total number of WBC-eligible Irish players up to 54.
