The Irish American Baseball Society will present Miami Marlins pitcher Declan Cronin with the the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame’s Irish Diaspora Award. The presentation will take place on Friday, March 28 at LoanDepot Park before the Marlins take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game is the Marlins annual Irish Heritage Celebration.
The term “Irish diaspora” refers to Irish immigrants and their descendants who live outside of Ireland. Declan Cronin’s great-grandparents came to America from County Cork, Ireland. This award recognizes his pride in his Irish heritage and his accomplishments in the game of baseball.
The award will be presented by Consul General of Ireland in Miami, Sarah Kavanagh, and Robert Pecchio of the Irish American Baseball Society and the South Florida Emerald Society. The presentation will also be attended by representatives from the South Florida Emerald Society and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Previous recipients of the Irish Diaspora Award include MLB stars Ryan O’Hearn, Kyle Finnegan, and Mike Trout.
