Irish Wolfhounds pitcher Aljo Sujak has signed with SaBaT Praha of the Czech Extraliga.
Aljo (pronounced ah-LOW), who hails from New Jersey, has pitched professionally for the New York Boulders in the independent Frontier League. He was recruited to pitch for the Wolfhounds by former Irish National Team pitcher and Boston College southpaw, Chris Gannon. Aljo is a dual citizen of Ireland and America. His grandfather, Peter Stack, was born in County Kerry.
Aljo recently pitched for the Irish Wolfhounds against Team Germany in Arizona.
Czech baseball website Milujeme Baseball (Milujeme translates to “We Love”) reports:
“Last year, he moved to Europe for the first time, where he played for Regensburg. He pitched 24 innings in five games for the Legionäre in the German league in the regular season with an ERA of 6.38 and 27 strikeouts. He fared much better in the playoffs, pitching 9.2 innings with an ERA of 3.72 and 12 strikeouts.
He also played for the Legionäre in the Champions Cup and Czech fans could see him in games against Czech teams. In two duels against the Dragons and one against the Eagles, he went to the mound as a reliever each time and did not allow a single hit or run in four innings pitched.”
